For many purpose-driven women, there comes a moment when she looks at her life — her career, her clients, her day-to-day— and thinks, ‘This doesn’t fit anymore.‘ And that moment? That’s not failure. It’s an invitation from your soul to pivot and rebrand.
As 50 was quickly approaching, I knew I had to make some changes. So, I turned inward and started asking important questions about how I was spending my time, energy, and utilizing my purpose. During that time, I realized something I had been teaching: I had to face it again – your life grows faster than your brand if you’re doing it right.
But here’s the gag: the key is to let your brand catch up with grace, not guilt.
Your Brand Is An Alignment Tool
Personal branding isn’t just about curating the right content to share your story, expertise, and experience with your audience, nor crafting the perfect bio, media kit, or speaker’s reel. At its core, Personal branding is about alignment. The beautiful alignment of your external expression to your internal evolution to educate other people about who you are, what you do, and who you do it for.
Consequently, as you evolve, your personal brand has to grow as well. If not, you’re going to feel the friction — the burnout, the boredom, the blah. Trust me, it happened to me, and it took me a year or so to process what was happening.
To Rebrand or Not
I’d spent most of my adult life building my personal brand, being a multifaceted entrepreneur, promoting a best-selling book about personal branding, consulting or coaching others on how to develop their brands, or doing it for them, only to realize that my brand had become stagnant.
How, you ask? Simple. I hadn’t prioritized it. I’d allow myself to become involved in too many things, and while some were aligned with my personal brand and purpose, others weren’t. And, as a result, I found myself mentally exhausted, overwhelmed, and unfulfilled.
I knew I had to self-reflect, pivot, and cultivate joy. So, I did.
Within a few months, I was reminded that in order to feed your creativity and live a fully realized and fulfilled life sometimes you have to update your dreams, plans, and make a hard pivot. And as you do, it’s not just important, but also rewarding, to update your personal brand to match your next-level vision.
For me, it was just what I needed to unlock my flow, and baby- I’m not looking back.
When you’re in a state of flow, your energy shifts. Then your audience grows. And your influence expands.
You may not be approaching 50 like I was when I hit my creative block and my soul craved for something more. Perhaps you haven’t given much thought to new aspirations, dreams, or your brand lately, or maybe you’ve been busy and have just been going through the motions.
Whatever attracted you to this post, here are some things to consider if you’re thinking about a rebrand, whether it’s a minor adjustment or a complete life overhaul, like your girl.
5 Signs You’re Due for a Rebrand
- You’re not inspired when introducing yourself — it feels outdated or out of sync.
- Your brand visuals or voice don’t reflect your current vibe.
- You’ve pivoted professionally but haven’t updated your platforms.
- You’re attracting clients that aren’t the best fit for you.
- You’re playing small because your brand hasn’t caught up with your brilliance.
Steps to Rebrand With Grace
- Reflect: Journal about what’s shifted in your values, goals, and desires.
- Clarify: Define who you are now, who you’re serving, why you’re serving them, and who you’re becoming.
- Audit: Both your life and your look. I’d like you to write out how you’d like your life to feel and look. What do you need to change or do to start becoming or living in that new reality? What new behaviors do you have to adopt? Do you have any new skills to acquire or time to dedicate to prioritization? Take a look at your website, bio, offers, products, services, and the way you’re communicating — are they still in alignment?
- Relaunch: Don’t wait for perfection. Create a rebrand or relaunch calendar, and tackle one goal at a time. Also, if your brand platform or digital presence needs to be updated, update one touchpoint at a time.
Final Thought
Your personal brand isn’t a business card. It’s a living, breathing reflection of you, who you are, what you represent, what you do, and who you do it for. You deserve to love your life and the personal brand that reflects it. Above all, be authentic and have fun with your personal brand.
Embrace changing, growing, and evolving, and don’t be afraid to rebrand as you do.
Don’t be scared to change you– it’s a sign of growth, goals accomplished, pivots made, and the beginning of big and beautiful new chapters.
Before I go, the truth is that allowing myself to evolve in public wasn’t easy (I’m currently working on tackling vulnerability), but it has been so rewarding. When possible, take your audience through the evolution process with you. Trust your audience to grow with you.
